2015 JKR ticking
 

At around 40,000 miles (a week ago) my 2015 jeep wrangler rubicon started ticking. The sound is loudest from underneath, so I thought maybe it's the clutch or something in the bottom end. After watching lots of youtube videos and reading forums posts, it seems to be the head tick issue. I found one video showing a charger where the rocker arm/cam follower roller pin sheared causing the cam to smack the follower. https://youtu.be/MPly9YAM_1E?t=4m29s

The dealer several of my friends have used for the 11-13 head replacement is busy (P0306 code), but I've scheduled to take mine in on the 22nd of December. I'm not driving it until then. :gak:

What's the collectives' guesses on the problem?

1. Collapsed lifter
2. Failed cam follower/rocker roller
3. Gremlins with hammers under the valve cover
4. ???

I'm just speculating based on what I've read here and elsewhere about the valvetrain and head design.

My '13 threw the engine code and had the right side of my engine replaced. I thought they had "fixed" the problem after 2013's...so my guess is gremlins or elfs with little hammers!

All of the above. I just had my 2013 in for the same reason and have a buddy with a 2016 that just had his in...
To make matters worse I could swear that I heard it ticking again the other day. I planned on keeping this Jeep for life but I'm not digging the motor issues.... Everything else is aftermarket so no worries there :wink:

Was your buddy's 16 a head issue? That would be frustrating as I sold my 12 when I had repeated engine issues and now have a 17 and hope the issues are resolved.

At what miles on the odometer are y'all experiencing it? I've got a 2013 with 26k miles and only issue I've had was a radiator leak.

at one point someone in here was keeping an excel spreadsheet of people's reported problems that included the mileage. My 2012 now has 81,000 miles and has been fantastic. No engine tuck or head problem. I had a very minor hiccup that was fixed with a $21 crank sensor.

I have two friends who have had heads replaced due to P0306 codes in the last 6 months. The 2012 had 40,000 miles when he first got the P0306. The 2013 had less miles when he got the P0306.

My 2015 has 40,000 miles. I change the oil in all of my cars and do it based on mileage. I don't know if my jeep has gone 6,000 miles without an oil and filter change. I just did it again when the ticking started after 2,800 miles on teh last change. I buy the mopar 2014+ filter too.

After waiting a few weeks to get into the local dealer with a good reputation, I dropped the jeep off on 12-22. They called today 12-27 to tell me they are waiting on a response from Chrysler to replace the entire head or just the affected components. I didn't get any real details from the service advisor except that it was a valve issue.

my guess is the needle bearings in a rocker arm failed
