2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited DEFECT
Hey Guys,
Recently started to notice that the leather on my steering wheel is ripped and peeling. I bought the jeep new in August so I'm pretty surprised that this is happening. This is my second Jeep, I had my previous one for 7 years and never experienced this problem. Has anyone else had this problem with the newer Jeeps? Any recommendations on what I should do? I already spoke with the service department at my dealership and they denied my warranty claim, saying that something abnormal I did caused the damage. Thats not the case, but whatever. I went on to speak with someone at Jeep Premium Care, and they too denied my claim, saying upper management would not approve it. Now I'm stuck with a brand new steering wheel that is peeling and no solutions on how to fix it. My dealership said I would have to replace the entire steering wheel, where as the people at Jeep Premium Care said it could possibly be rewrapped. But, at this point, nobody has been very helpful in helping me get either of those two options done. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jorge

Pictures? Is there any chance at all that you think you could have played a part in the damage, or are you completely certain that the steering wheel covering was a dud? If you are absolutely convinced that it was not misused or mishandled in any way....which I presume you are otherwise you wouldn't have posted, then I think you need to keep escalating that higher and higher until you get resolution. That would totally piss me off. My steering wheel has been perfect for four years, and I can't recall seeing any chatter about defective leather on a steering wheel.
There have been 2 or 3 times in my life where I've been pissed off enough to fight the battle. Two of those times required me going as high as a CEO. The biggest one was fighting with AT&T. I was rejected at every turn, but dammit, I finally went up to CEO Randall Stevenson and oddly enough started seeing some action. Had to go up the ladder at State Farm one time as well with similar results. It's a longer and slower road when you have to go to those lengths, but "corner office" management tends to take specific note of complaints that get that high.
If it were me, and I was convinced it was just a defect and that I hadn't done anything inappropriate, I'd continue pushing further and further up the chain of command.

I have a 2012. I always carry a spyderco knife in my right pocket. Sometimes when I pivot my body to get out of the Jeep the metal clip on the knife scrapes on the steering wheel. As a result, mine has some damage. Could something like this have happened to yours?
