Ge99ne,
how much higher do u feel the powerband is in the v6. Sounds good that it will get up to 80 np but i don't hink i'll be using it on a highway that fast very often. Except we drive up to penn state university just south of it to go camping for a few weeks and theres some decent off roading up there. Goin up the highway with no top no door no nuthing doin 80 mph in a 4 cyl tj. that's a wee bit scary when a eighteen wheeler or something comes zoooming right by u. (i'm not much of a speed demon. i wrecked my first truck (93 f 150 back when ford knew how to make em) and i was driving like a 16 yr old idiot and i lost it in the rain hit a bank and flipped over.)

I'm sure designers are on it now. It hasn't been that long and i wouldn't be so gung ho about modding the engine. Cuz wouldnt that void ur warranty with dc if it doesnt then i'm as gung ho for it as u

Well to me it seemed like the I6 just pulled steady through the band . Seemed to have practically all its torque at 900 rpm & not much more at 3000 RPM. The v has the typical more rev for more power type curve.. Around town I don't rev much more than 2500 rpms to get up to speed. To pass I've wound it up to 4500 or so.

Default JK milage and power

I drove my JK Unlimited over 800 miles this weekend from Hattiesburg MS to Atlanta Ga and back. I averaged 18.7 mpg and according to the dash computer got it up to 20.1 mpg at one point. I kept it between 70-75 mph most of the time with short sprints above 80 to pass a several times. As for the power, it's got all I'll need. I have had a 98 SE and a 04 Rubicon. I have to say I am impressed with the mpg considering the the JK is bigger and heavier and I had no problem getting my automatic to accelerate to pass.

If you think back to when the TJ came out there were a lot of nay sayers then too.... they all complained about how it was too gurly and Jeep had ruined the rugged tradition of Jeeps..... Well I think it's the same story different day.... there will always be someone to put down something that is new. The TJ was great out of the box and I think the JK is just as good in some areas and much better in others. The doubters neet to read the Africa write up on JP's web site or in Petersen's and they need to watch Test Drive on the Speed channel.

So in addition to having a compass and outside temp comparison, there is a trip computer which calculates mileage? What models is it offered on? I must have missed it in the literature.

So far the 3.8 sound fine to me. Don't think I will be waiting for the diesel. With diesel costing more than gas and the extra cost to purchase, it will be several years before it pays for itself and starts saving me money.

I have an X model Unlimited which comes pretty well equiped with the 24S package. The dash computer also tells you how many miles you have left on the gas in the tank, and how many hours of run time are on your engine.

Hey could you let me know if yours gives up on the last 40 miles? I was watching mine around town & noticed somewhere around the 40 MTE mark it switched over to low fuel warning. well duh that's what the light tells me. I was hoping it would run down to the 16 to 20 mile mark.
