35's and stock gearing?

Hey all,
I'm thinking about going with 315/70R17's Guard Dogs (re-treads) which measure out to like 34.7x11.8. I mainly use my JK to daily drive in speed zones of 45, 55, and 65. occasionally 70 on the interstate. I wheel maybe once or twice every couple months and not extreme at all. might get a wheel off the ground every now and again. My questions are....Would I have any issues with running 3.73 gears and D35's?? like I said I don't do anything too extreme and mainly just highway driving. I know my gas mileage with drop a couple MPG's but that's not a huge concern of mine. Any info would be great. Thanks!

p.s. I will also have about a 2" lift switching out springs, not sure if that'll affect anything.

You will definitely notice a power loss. I would recommend picking up a tuner, or at least a procal, and you may want to keep the OD off.

^ what he said. I ran 33s and 4.10s for awhile on my 2010 (auto) and the tuner helped a bit. I then went to 35s and 4.10s and lasted about 3 months until I put 5.13s in, best money i've ever spent.

Yeah, figured so. I've also been driving with the OD off. these 3.8 autos are slush boxes anyhow. My first option is a 33x12.5 but I'm just trying to get enough "cons" of a 35" so I'm not soo back and forth on it.

The pro's out way the con's any day when it comes to 33s vs 35s. Like you said these 3.8s are slugs anyways and it really it's that bad if you keep the OD off and aren't speed racer. You'll be much happier with 35s and their stance vs 33s, as in a month of owning 33s you'll want 35s and kick yourself for wasting money :yup:

Brian,

You will notice a decent decrease in gas mileage as well as power. I think you'll be okay for a little bit, but I recommend going for some 4.88 Gears. Also, one of our Tuners would be a good idea too. It'll allow you to adjust your shift points, calibrate for the larger tires and gears, and much more.

Let me know if you hvae any other questions, I'll be happy to help.

I just put 35" Toyo's on mine last weekend. I have 4.10 gears. Up to 60, not so bad. Over 60, real dog. Went from 16mpg to 14mpg in town. Tomorrow will be the first time I will have driven it on the highway long enough to see what mpg there does. 11' JKUR

I am running 35's, with 3.73 gears, 2010 auto, and have the Hypertech tuner. The power is down a bit on the highway, but the 35's are worth it to me. I find it tolerable and have no regrets.

I have 35s with 3.21 gears 6 speed manual 2008 jku. No regrets, I might rehear one day but it would be years from now if I do

johnnymurad 04-12-2013 08:27 PM

With 3.21 and 35's it feels a lot like pulling a trailer, it works but looking forward to a regear.
