Default 4wd Problem?

I put this unltd X in 4H and tried to back out the driveway. When I turn the whel most of the way it's like someone put on the emergency brake. I can make "normal" right or left turns, but going around a cul-de-sac is like skips, jumps, brakes and all kinds of odd stuff.

Normal 4wd behavior???

Yea it's normal if you wern't on a loose surface like a few inches of snow or gravel/mud. Don't use 4x4 on dry or high traction surface.

Totally normal for a 4wd vehicle on a high traction surface. Now, stop doing it...

+1. You could damage your Jeep's 4wd system by driving with it engaged, in particular on dry pavement with the wheel sharply turned.

Like what was said, normal. There is no need to use 4wd unless 2wd can't do it for you. You don't need to use 4wd all the time just because you have it. Dry or wet roads can cause damage as well as the cul-de-sac thing.

Good to know!! Didn't get owners manual or 4wd for dummies book.

Was supposed to snow/ice today so was making sure the damn thing worked in an extended fashion.

Thanks for the replies

Go out to the Jeep website. Click 'For Owners' up top. Then 'Owners/Service Manuals' on the left and put in your info.

Here is one blurb from the manual:
The 4H and 4L positions are intended for loose, slippery road surfaces only and not intended for normal driving. Driving in the 4H and 4L positions on hard surfaced roads will cause increased tire wear and damage to the driveline components.
You should also read the section on going into and out of 4 Low
