I twisted it with a pipe wrench and it did pop off. Then I discovered the better way.

Take a small screwdriver and separate the rubber collar from the top of the knob. You then slide that down and the internals will be exposed. You should be able to see what is next.

The knob is held on be a spring clip that is pretty strong. Putting something like an openend wrench under the knob and hitting upward with a hammer will pop it off too.

Good luck.

I removed the rubber part with 2 flatheads on either side and some muscle. Then took a big ass wrench and muscled to turn it 360 a couple slow times, then was able to shimmy it up with the wrench. Same process for the gear shifter.

I have been digging for an old thread on this where someone posted pictures of how to pop the knob apart to remove the spring clip, but I'll be damned if I can find it.

I have a 2011 and was pulling on the t-case knob until I was about to pass out. Thing didn't move. Someone told me to put a crescent wrench on it and then a few hits w a BFH and it pops right off. Haven't tried it yet though.

Once you pull your knob off a couple of times its pretty easy and you dont have to fight it.

I had to replace the boot and bezel around my shifter this summer and all the stuff I read about people getting fat lips and black eyes and chipped teeth when removing the shift knob had me pretty nervous. I sat on the center console and got prepared for a battle. To my surprise, it came off super easily for me, T-case handle too (I removed it just to see if I could). I was one of the lucky ones I guess, still have all my teeth, and the fat lip is from buying parts without telling my wife first..."Telling" is a manly way of saying asking!!! LOL!!!
