Default 8 Speed

I've read in a couple threads a mention of a new 8 speed Transmission. Does anyone have any info on when it will be out into production?

It's in production now.

Charger, 300, RAM.

I hope that answers your question.

No official date when it will go into the Jeep/Wrangler line up though.

I wonder how it drives. My wifes car is a 5-speed auto. I recently had a rental that ran a 6-speed auto. I didn't care for it; felt like it shifted too much, and that it was never quite sure which gear it should be in. I love the feel of the 5-speed. Gives each gear a little 'leg' to stand on. Perfect for an auto, in my opinion.

Anyone drive an 8-speed yet?

The eight speed is fairly smooth, like the fuel economy boost in it. They don't have any eight speed trucks shipped to the Canadian dealers yet, so can't tell you what it feels like when it pulls weight though. My only hurdle on the eight speed is the goofy shifters on them, how they are a 'click' style on the charger and how they will be a rotary dial on the trucks.

I agree about the dial. I can just see the switch going out after the warranty is up. I was really thinking about waiting, but I really like the idea of the shifter on the floor. Besides, I'll have the jeep sooner if I don't wait!

I actually wouldn't mind the rotary dial shifter. Would free up some knee room as far as I'm concerned. Keep the floor mounted trasfer case lever....and add some paddle shifters behind the wheel.

An 8 speed would be awesome for economy and I bet its 1st and 2nd gears are low! I would love to do a 8 speed swap! Although your talking about a standalone controller, unless it comparable with older models. Plug and play would be sweet! But I guess dreaming is a just that, a dream!
