Default Aaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

The other day i went to change the oil in my '07 JK because my wife started noticing a ticking noise. It was about 6000 miles since my last one, and ive always used royal purple. When i emptied the pan there was like less than a quart in it!! After the oil change the knock was still there....only its coming from the oil pan and not the valve covers, im pretty sure its a rod knock. Any one know whats my best route to go here? I bought it 4 months before the lifetime powertrain warranty came out and the bumper to bumper is up. Im sure if i bring it to the dealer they wont cover it under warranty and it will be thousands to fix.

Sounds like it needs an engine to be honest. No low oil pressure light (find that hard to believe)?

That sucks that the oil light didn't come on

But I can say this is why I'll only ever use Royal Purple. I had a similar thing happen when I entrusted my last Jeep to someone to watch while I was away for a while. I came back to find 10K miles had been put on the Jeep during the hot summer weather with no oil changes. Of course the first thing I did when I got home was to change the oil. I found about 2.5 out of 6 quarts left in the crankcase but there was no damage to the Jeep.

Had you noticed any oil consumption before this past oil change (previous changes showing oil use or any smoke)? How many miles are on your JK and was this your first time running Royal Purple?

Unfortunately it sounds like you have some engine repairs in your future. You may want to get it diagnosed as soon as possible to make sure you don't cause any extra damage.

if your willing to take your oil pan off.
see if any of your piston arms are loose, and if so than your crank shaft may have been worn down.
