Default Accelleration "Flat Spot"

After driving my new JK for over 1100 miles now, I have gotten to know it fairly well. It has what I call a "flat spot" in the accelleration curve at right about 55 MPH in high gear. I mean probably 3/4-1" of pedal travel where the Jeep does NOTHING. It is especially noticable uphill. It will actually lose speed instead of staying steady. If I continue depressing the pedal, it will of course downshift (automatic) and begin accellerating again. Is this normal?

Do you have an auto? When getting on the freeway I always have to hit the OD off button because it seems the tranny wants to drop into OD right about the time I need to merge into traffic, and when it does there is no gusto at all.
