Default Advice on rear window?

Hello all.... question for you. 2007 wranger... My rear window (3 part hard top-stock with wiper) weather stripping (on the bottom where it meets the tailgate) is completely destroyed--plastic and all. Its barely hanging on. There was some wear when I bought it in january, didn't notice till I got home and epoxied it for a bit but now its just not working.

Quadratec says its a dealer only option.... dealer says its part of the glass and requires a new window. quoted at 770 +112 labor.

Anyone have any better ideas??? or had this problem and solved it?

thanks for your help and adivce!

Joe

Ordinarily I wouldn't suggest such a thing but do you have glass insurance? Know what I mean, eh, nudge, nudge?

Default Yeah...

I frickin' hate having a rear window in any of the Jeep's I own cuz I can't see outta the damn thing anyway...I get a clear view of my spare tire...so, go and get a rear view screen/camera set-up... hang the screen from your mirror mount, which, if you get a good one provides a great view of the cop who's pullin' you over...and, then go to REBELOFFROAD and get the DOUBLE ROTOPAX thingee for your back window...get ridda the damn thing and put these two storage gizmo's in...doing all of this, if you can do it yourself, will give you extra storage and it kinda looks cool. Say GOODBYE to seein' out the back...look at it this way, one less window to get busted/ruined again...and it can literally hail softballs and there ain't notta damn thing comin' through or breaking that thing ever again!!!

For that much you could buy a soft top. Or you could watch the for sale section for a cracked hard top and buy it for the glass. I see them go for 200-300.

I'd call another dealer or three. There's zero chance that somebody won't sell you the stripping separately.

Is it the tail gate bar fixed to the bottom of the glass we're talking about ?
As mine was leaking in and causing the storage area to flood.
Got it fixed under warranty. Pretty sure they just replaced the plastic bar / rubber seal.
THere was no mention of replacement glass in the report I got back.
Is there not a tailgate bar listed on Quadratec ?
As I looked it up after they fixed the problem.
May be something different as its difficult to tell with the picture size.

"Just had a look on Quadratec and they have tailgate bat listed for 07-10 Wranglers.
Looks to be similar to whats fixed on the end of my glass."

Had another look at rear window, looks like there is a plastic strip bonded to the glass in addition to the tail gate bar. If that what it is the dealer will be correct.

Yea RLT, it looks like its bonded to the glass somehow. I almost want to take it off and see if I can concoct something....
