A really nice drive to the farmer's market was shot to pieces when my 2013 JKUR threw a fit in the middle of downtown Los Angeles. Yeah, that's where I want to have a break down. My Jeep had been throwing up dashboard lights for several months. Sway Bar, Traction Control and ABS. But the car still drove fine. Once I restarted the engine everything went away.
I knew I couldn't ignore it forever and bought a ODB and JScan software.
The next time those lights came up it also threw in the check engine light and the car was reduced to a crawl. That's when I got this error code.
I read a lot of posts of people with this code and there were way more questions than answers.

From my own experience I'm here to tell you that the answer is the Transfer Case Control Switch. (Image B).
The switch is located on the top of the transfer case (image C) The green line shows how you'll need to thread your arm to it if you don't remove the transfer case. Spoiler alert, I didn't.
Important notes:
Be aware that Rubicons take a different part than a standard Jeep. Reference the stamped badge on the transfer case to be sure. Rubicons are MP241. (image D)
It's likely that your new part does not come with the rubber O-ring (even from Mopar). If it's in good condition, gently remove the O-ring from your old switch and use that one.
You'll need a 1 1/2" socket. Do not use a deep socket. It won't fit. It's a tight squeeze but not impossible.
The real pain point was threading the new part back in because it's got a spring loaded switch.
Here's a reference video I used and it was very helpful.

Since replacing the part my Jeep runs so much better. Even shifting into 4WD is smoother. It used to grind and CLUNK.
I hope this information saves you from a lot of confusion and wasted time. If you get this code order the part and replace. Your troubles are over.
