Auto Trans recall
Thats what I was getting at. To satisfy the government all they have to do in the recall is to reflash your pcm so it tells you right before it explodes in a ball of flame. It doesn't matter to the government that they sold us a product that may catch fire and possibly kill you or a family member as long you were warned right beforte it caught fire. I think they should make Chrysler recall all auto's and add a secondary tranny cooler. I love my Jeep so don't take this wrong BUT they are cash cow's for chrysler and for your money you get alot less than with other vechiles in the same price range. I bought my wife an 08 Pontiac Torrent which is the sister of the Chevy Equinox, the Torrent has way better fit and finish, way more features for less than I paid for my unlimited. Minus the fun factor the Jeep has the Torrent is a far better engineered and constructed vechile. I think for all the money they make off of us jeepers they could do the right thing and take care of a serious problem that they are well aware of.
i wonder if i took the doors and roof off of the Pontiac Torrent and then went rock crawling for hours at a time if the trans would overheat?
i wonder if it has selectable lockers and 4x4.
those cars are easier to make becuase of the environment in which they have to operate. if the panel fitment was closer on the jeep, panels would make contack with each other when offroading.
it takes alot of money to make a jeep look cheap. we paid for what is underneath the panels. great engineering for the environment that we drive it in.
im not bashing you, i agree chrysler could do more. we both know they are not out to do the right thing, they are out to make a profit for their shareholders at our expense while providing a product we will buy. we both knew this before we signed the papers for the loan.
Off road, being in 4lo, "D", O/D off, will keep the temps lower because tramsmission can go up to 3rd, and the t/c is allowed to lock up.
If I have to be in 1st or 2nd, I keep the time there to a minimum. The temp will actually come back down when in 3rd, and t/c lock-up.

I agree that chrysler could do more with a serious transmission issue, but its just my opinion but Jeeps should never have been fitted with slush boxes to start with, it's a jeep keep it basic and let the mods begin.
You don't consider that a safety issue?

I realize your not bashing, everyone has a point of view but I think your missing my point. My point is that it cost Jeep less to build my unlimited than it did GM to build my Torrent yet I paid less for the Torrent and got a better constructed vechile. I'm not comparing the fun factor of the Jeep, you can't put a price on fun. What I am saying is that it is far cheaper to build a full frame solid axle vechile. Be honest the front axle and transfer case don't cost that much. I have heard many reports of JK's catching fire that were stock and on pavement, not to mention the reports of the track bar brackets ripping off on stock JK's. How many TJ's have tranny fluid boiling or track bar's ripping off. I think they can and should do better by their customers. I have been a mechanic for over 20yrs and I can not think of 1 other vechile that can boil the tranny fluid in a totally stock configuration and operating under normal conditions. I am currently an industrial equipment mechanic and drive a full size van, I haul approx 3000lbs worth of tools and parts around everyday, guess what my tranny fluid has never boiled out my dipstick tube. Like I said I am a jeeper, I'm on my 3rd Jeep and will never be without a Jeep. I just think chrysler cheaped out. A few more welds would take care of the track bar mount problem and a aux cooler would take care of the trans issue. I can buy a cooler for $60. If chrysler ordered say 200,000 what would they pay for the same cooler maybe $20. It's way cheaper to do right in the first place than to do it over.

Just an update, If you had spend $$ tried to fix this problem, (ie install trans cooler, gauge etc), you can get a full refund from chrysler if you can provide the receipt/invoice.
According to chrysler:
"Chrysler has a longstanding policy and practice ofreimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject ofa field action. To ensure consistency, Chrysler, as part of the owner letter, will request that customers send original receipt and/or other adequate proof ofpayment to the company for confirmation ofthe expense."
