Default Bad Highway Throttle Response

Normally, a vehicle driving on the highway would accelerate at a steadily rising RPM until you depress the accelerator all the way to the floor to kick in "passing gear". But in Jeeps, if you are going down the highway at 2200 RPM and want to just accelerate a little bit, it gets kicked into "passing gear" and ramps up to about 3000 RPM immediately. The same thing happens at like 3000 RPM - gets ramped up to about 4500 - 5000 RPM immediately. What is up with that? I have a 2012 JKUR now but my other 2008 JKU did the same thing. Is there any way to fix this? I wish it would just accelerate steadily as I push the accelerator down and only hit "passing gear" when I depress the accelerator all the way to the floor.

The only way I know to fix that is to use a tuner to adjust your shift points man.

But it's not shifting. It is in overdrive at the time. There is no problem with the shift points. It's just the throttle reving up RPMs.

Get a manual.

"Passing gear" is when your automatic transmission shifts out of over drive and to a lower gear to aid in acceleration.

Yes, but this doesn't seem to shift. But when I think about it, it must be downshifting. But this is irritating because it's not like I'm hammering the gas pedal. I'm just trying to get it to accelerate slightly.

Just wondering if any tuner or some other option is available, for an automatic, that will minimize this constant reving on the highway.

Happened to me too and our 2008 driving down the Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama Interstate hills. Most annoying thing ever - Had to wait for the flats to pass F150s, 250s, and 350s.

it could possibly be a torque converter issue

Either turn off overdrive or re-gear. Pressing a button is free, the other is ~$1000. The next gen Wrangler will more than likely have a modern 6 or 8 speed auto to keep the engine in the power band.

Yes, it is annoying. This weekend I was going up a hill at around 3000 RPMs and it suddenly ramped up to about 5600 RPMs - I let off the gas immediately because it sounded like it was going to blow.
