Do you get to keep that old axle housing and/or frame? There has to be a little value in those I'd think. What was wrong with the axle....just bent control arm mounts, or was the C all jacked up? The frame possibly useful for some buggy build?

I will ask. IIRC, they said the C was OK. I have no way to haul the frame off, but I could get the axle in my minivan.

Did they use all the internals from the old axle? If what you're left with is just the housing with a bent bracket.....assuming the tubes were straight, i'd think you could get a couple hundred for it maybe.....someone can easily weld on heavier duty brackets and it's not a big deal. One of those things where insurance deems it worthless, but it's really not THAT big a deal if it's just a control arm bracket that got bent. If the C is ok, I'd think the tube prob is as well. I could see a hit to the tire pushing things passenger side adn really the control arm absorbing that wiht a bend and a jacked up mount. I'm just thinking out loud.

Just have a front end loader plop the frame on top and bungee it down! Maybe I'm just smoking something seeing value in what the insurance sees as trash. If you can get that stuff, maybe just throw out some local feelers to judge if there's any interest....sell to somene and have them pick it up from the place. Couple hundred bucks is better than nothing.....that's an upgraded something for your rig.

They put in a complete axle, so the old one has all the gears, etc.

By all means, get that sucker back! There's a lot of money in that thing still. Even if you had to separate the housing, shafts, and locker......there's a lot of resale value in that. Probably could sell that as/is for a solid profit and parlay that in to something else. If damage is limited to a bracket or what not, probably $1200 - $1700 type range.
