bikini top
If you've got full metal doors and you have a bikini top on... if it starts raining you could roll the windows up and it would prevent the majority of the rain from ruining your dash. Right? Or not?
I believe they make 2 versions; hard top/ soft top. If you had the soft top version and the door surrounds, the passenger compartment should be sealed. If not, there will be about a 2in gap between the door and the top. As stated above, the cargo area will not be protected. My wife keeps the windows unzipped on her soft top all summer. Aside from aesthetic, there's really not a lot of difference between that and a bikini.
IDK what to say. It seems like a crap shoot with the soft tops. I've got 2 Jeeps with soft tops and they don't even leak in the car wash.
It's going to depend on which top you're talking about. And the rear is still open. If the Jeep is parked, these tops tend to sag and pool water--sometimes lots of water--which can leak through the (now, with the weight of all that water) stretched seams. Probably the best combo is if you own the softtop, get the Mopar Sunbonnet for softtop owners and install it with the door frames. Add a Duster to seal the tub, and a Windjammer (four doors only 'official" option) or a Wrap-around Windjammer (preferred for two doors, and some folks have stretched to fit on four doors) to seal up the rear window opening. That's a pretty tight combo.
BTW: There are other manufacturers of various bikini tops and Mopar is the most expensive. But, it works the best, which is why I recommend it.

Well all I have is the hardtop. That's it. I want to run totally topless...BUT...i need some kind of protection that I can throw on quick because thunderstorms can fire up here in 15 minutes time. I know the cargo area will get wet. I'm mainly wanting to protect the dash/radio/clock spring from water damage.

The bikini will do a good job of protecting the dash in most cases. I usually have my bikini top (H/T) and no doors. The top keeps the dash and most of me dry. I also have a Bestop trail cover for overnight. Mark is right about the pooling water. It will sag. I haven't had it leak through though. I have the dust cover and the windjammer (4dr). The windjammer really limits my visibility. I'm trying to figure out how to keep the dustcover from leaking without the windjammer.
