brake smell
a year ago I could smell the brakes strongly after I got out. The driver rear rim was actually hot and that rotor was significantly hotter then the others. I replaced the caliper...all was well. Now a year later, it is the passenger rear. Rotor is significantly hotter then the rest. Same scenario. Hot enough that you can feel the heat on the rim itself. I took the tires off, both rotors spin about the same, some resistance, but not locked. However, this time I applied the brake pedal, then tried to spin the rotors, and they were froze. Had to use quite a bit of muscle to get them to spin again, and they still spin rough (not as freely as prior to applying the brake). Next I started the Jeep and tried applying the brakes. Still, both sides don't seem to be freeing up. Fluid is full. What else should I be looking at?
Make sure that the rod that pushes the master cylinder piston has a bit of play in it. If the actuation rod is tight against the piston it is possible it is not letting the master cylinder plunger retract all of the way back and is holding a bit of pressure on the brakes.
