Default Break in fluids.

I am at 1000 miles in my 2011 JK Sport. Manual tranny, 3.21 gears. Have used 4 high, and low daily, shifting slot to get everything broke in. It is cold in Maine and am really wanting to change oils to winter weights. Is it too early to change all the fluids with synthetics? These cold dry starts sound horrible.

its never too early (except from a wasting money/resources point of view).

I would definitely change the engine oil but just because I like an early change for a new engine.

The other oils can wait a while.

I agree with Jiblet. I changed the engine oil on my 10 Rubi at 1,500. The rest can be left alone for now unless you don't mind spending the $.

Ok, so I have decided to do a full Amsoil swap. First reason is becuase I think it couldnt hurt. Second reason is I want to see how far I can get my oil to go. Changing every 25k would save a lot of money and time. But I have a plan.

I am going to change this weekend and see if I see any improvements in anything this week. Then when the oil change light comes on the first time, I am going to change the engine oil (Just to be safe) and send off for an oil analysis.

If the oil Analysis says the oil was good still, I will go through two oil change lights next time and test again. I dont see myself going over two oil change lights for safety reasons.

I want to do a write up on this and would like any input as I go through oil changes. Thoughts? I look forward to everyones input, and I hope it helps you all out equally.

Tomorrow I will be changing ALL FLUIDS to Amsoil. Im not one to believe hype, but it seems amsoil really is the way to go. I would like to stick to one brand throught the whole vehicle to simplify purchasing and stocking supplies.

What do ya'll think?

You might consider saving a sample of the just opened fresh oil in a lab supplied sample bottle. This sample will act as your reference standard to compare to the used oil. Talk to your testing lab they may feel it is unnecessary but that is how we do it at work for all of our rotating equipment. Are you going to change filters between oil changes?

Change every 5000 is ok with me.

Remember the warranty requires regular maintenance. And the maximum change interval for engine oil is 6k miles or 6 months. (Some believe the manual calls for a 6k change interval but actually 6k/6months is the "never to exceed" interval.) Lots of us do our own changes but keep good records and receipts in case we have to prove it for warranty purposes.

Personally, I would never go over 6 months regardless of mileage. Especially if that 6 month period includes a New England-type winter.

I follow my OCI which happens to consistently light up at about 5k miles. Which is usually right around 5 months, too. Is the Mobil 1 worn out by then? I doubt it!

I agree, I dont have anything against amsoil but the very cold temps you live in are really hard on oil. Moisture will build up from condensation from every time you shut the rig off.

Default im at 850 miles on mine ! im changing at 1000

i live in n.h. cold start ups sound like a errrrrrrrrr before it runs quiet ! as soon as you turn the key its like a grind noise is that referd to as cold dry start ? only lasts a second !!
im a amsoil person myself but i think ill change over to synth too but i heare first oil change should be that of dino and a decent filter !!! im concidering using dino this first change run it till hits 4000 then go to amsoil , this i do remember about amsoil if it makes a harley 1450 run cooler it certaily will make a jeep run cooler and another thing touch a head on a 1450 motor when you start up using harley oil or mobile one syn and youl have no hand left try it on amsoil and its just warm ater a start that tells me that amsoil runs motor cooler . cooler means less friction, less friction means longevity! that means my 2 cents not that anyone cares or asked , but interval changes will be done every 4000 miles even with synth .

Awesome, I checked my manual and mine says to change oil and filter every 8,000 miles. I think this is a new manual revise for 2011. Im not paying too much attention to mileage though, since most of my mileage is at 50mph or below, and 90% is at operating temperature. I will mainly be going by the oil change indicator, and will definitely change on the next light, AND take an oil sample. If it comes back with plenty of life, I will skip the next light (CHANGE FILTER and top off) and resample at next light. I will repeat the process until they report marginal oil, and then I can know how long the oil lasts with my driving techniques. Thanks for all yalls input. Anyone else?

I agree. Cold is brutal on engines. I will keep you updated on start up behavior and cold temperature oil analysis.
