Carpet Removal
 

I want to remove the carpet inside. I've read people saying it's an easy job taking only 10 minutes. I tried the other day.

Do you have to cut carpets to remove them? The middle section covers between the front and back seats, come off easy without cutting, but the ones for front seats and the cargo areas need to be cut to remove unless you unscrew seats, right?

No just move seats forwards and backwards to unfold the carpet.

Just grab one corner. Pull it up and the rest will follow. Did 3 days after I got the jeep

I don't think you can remove the very front section without cutting on a JK. or without removing the front seats. I made one 1/4" strip near each seat to remove it. You will see what I am talking about when you do it.

I removed mine a couple of weeks ago. I know on mine ,the carpet around the seat brackets (the bracket near both doors) was partially cut. I just pulled it apart gentially and it came apart.

Does anyone have pics of the carpet removed without or before line-x?

I had to make 1 cut on each of the front foot well carpets (passenger and driver side). This suprised me as my TJ did not require any.

On both sides the carpet had a hole for where the seat base bolts to the floorboard, however the hole was a "punch" completely joined on all sides. I took the shortest route from the outside of the carpet to the hole, it was only about 1/2" or so. Then I was able to free it up from around seat post bolted to the floorboard.

Thanks for replies. I figured that there may be some carpets that do not require cutting to remove. I wanted to verify with others. I think my very front ones (passenger's and drivers floor) requires cutting. Maybe not one on the very back.

Does removing the carpet allow for more road noise? Also, does it allow for more heat to come in? I am looking to do this but am concerned about those two things.

The fronts on mine required me slicing a slit in them. Like stated, front seat seems to be installed after the carpet is put in, so the carpet is "looped" around the seat supports.

Nothing a razor blade and 2 seconds of my time couldn't fix.

I had my carpet out for a few weeks. I noticed a slight increase in road noise, and a little bit of a heat increase.

I honestly think the heat increase was only noticed because I was looking for it. The carpet (and the Mopar Vinyl flooring for that matter) really only have two small swatches of "Heat insulation" that pad the tranny hump.... So I don't think they do much to insulate the heat at all...




But there's only one real way to find out! Just pull them out and stack them somewhere for a week. See how you like it. If you don't like it, just put them back in. That's the beauty of removable carpet!
