I learned something today, thanks guys! I asked this exact question at the dealer a couple of months ago and got the opposite answer. Never trust the dealer eh?

Apparently you didn't read the entire thread. Look at posts 4, 7, and 8.

Sorry for being unclear, in post 2 I reported that you needed friction modifier even if the Gear Oil already had it, as that's what the Dealer told me when I asked. After, posts 4, 7, and 8 I reported that I learned something in post 12 where I quoted my own post 2, revoking my original statement in post 2. I am not sure I am the one who did not read all the posts.

Oh well. I read all the posts. I just didn't notice you were quoting yourself.
I have noticed, though, a lot of people don't read all the posts.

I was going to ask the same question. When I changed mine out the 1st time the Dealer Service Mang. told me I needed the additive. I'm still questioning myself on this issue. I'm soon due up for the next change of fluids....

No need for any doubt. The Rubicon with the Tru-Lok doesn't require an additive. If the dealer says it does, ask him why, since there are no slipping clutches in the differential.
If some was added, it wouldn't hurt anything.

Btw it does not need additives, it's treated like a open differential. However, I am running Synthetic fluids, which never need a LSD additive anyway.
Sorry, should have been more specific. They did ask the shop forman/tech. and that’s where the answer came from, but then again as we have all learned, consider the source??

all the writer was trying to do was charge you for the additive.. the tech, knowing a lot more than the wrtier, would not have added the additive (prob put it in his toolbox since you paid for it) and you would have left their thinking you now always need the additive.
