That will put the instrument cluster into its Actuator Test.

This is how to pull up the codes:

1. To check your Jeep JK Wrangler’s DTC codes, simply insert your key into the ignition, turn it to the ‘ON’ position but do not start the engine. Then, push the key into the ignition cylinder and while holding it in, turn it to the ‘OFF’ position and then back to the ‘ON’ position (3) times straight making sure to end with it in the ‘ON’ position. It is important to keep pushing in on the key to prevent it from catching at the different positions along the way.
2. If you do step #1 correctly, all your dash lights will illuminate and your odometer will show up as a series of (6) dashes. If your Jeep JK Wrangler has logged any DTC’s, they will be displayed soon after the dashes appear. Write down the DTC(s).
3. If your Jeep JK Wrangler has not logged any DTC’s, the dashes on your odometer will be followed by the message ‘-done-’. Turn your key to the ‘OFF’ position and you will in fact be done.

How does it feel to drive? Making any noises out of the ordinary or sputtering or running rough? That web site I posted gives a list of symptoms and possible solutions. If you aren't getting any of those things try going to Autozone, they have OBD-II readers and will usually turn off the codes for free. Hope you get it figured out.

I just checked it again and although the check engine light is still on all I get is dashes and then 'DONE'...the code won't come up anymore.

Ideas? I wish I wrote the damm thing down the first time.

When I got that code it was a bad plug. I had 50+k miles so I replaced the plugs and wires. Probably just needed the plugs. The #6 was a little fouled looking.

P0306-CYLINDER 6 MISFIRE

  • When Monitored: Any time the engine is running, and the adaptive numerator has been successfully updated.
  • Set Condition: The threshold to set the fault is application specific; it is tied to the level of misfire that will cause emissions to increase to 1.5 times the standard or in some cases 1%. It is always a two trip fault above the calibrated RPM. It takes 1 soft fail to set a malfunction and two trips to set the MIL. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.

My bad the first line should have read only two codes in the P04 series ending in the number 6

Default P0420 Service Engine Light

My 08 started showing me the check engine light. I have an OBDII code reader and it gave me this code P0420 code. I looked it up and it has something to do with the catalyst System. Anybody else having this same error code?
