Default Check engine light

My 2011 jku had it's check engine light turn on suddenly this morning while backing out of the driveway. It only has 50k. I'm a scared. Someone calm my nerves please

Could be as simple as a loose gas cap. Tighten till clicks several times pull one of the battery cables off for 10 min and see if it's gone

Yes, don't panic just yet. That light can come on for a ton of reasons, some as simple as the gas cap or another un-important reason. Doesn't mean that the engine is toast. Check the simple things and then check the codes either yourself or at a local auto parts place that offers it. Don't worry till you have facts to worry about. It's going to be nothing more times than not.

Get the code read with a good code reader. The key dance with the display in the cluster will not show all the codes that may be set.

Regarding disconnecting one of the battery cables...
If you ever do it, make sure it's the negative cable. You should not apply a wrench to the positive cable when the negative is still connected.
