clutch/transmission
Last night my clutch or transmisson went out. this happened about a year ago this same time and i ended up buying a brand new clutch and $1k later its good as new, now this happened again. I was going down a hill at about 35 MPH and shifted into second hear to slow down and boom, clutch pedal wouldnt engage and i smelt that all so familar burning. is there any posiblilty it could be the linkage or andthing else between the pedal and clutch itself? and othe rhelp would be great
thanks

when the jeep is off i can go through the gears clutchless, when its on i can do the same thing. it acts like its gonna go when first engaging the gear then it just stops.

With the jeep running can you put it into gear? When in gear let out the clutch does it drive? If it does not move then the clutch is stuck on. If you can'nt get it into gear then the clutch is is not engaging. Being that this is a hydraulic clutch have you checked the clutch master for fluid? broken hoses/lines? If you can'nt see anything wrong you will probley be pulling the clutch for a change again, or repaire what failed.

25 years ago when I was learning how to drive stick, and burned through a clutch or two, my friend and mechanic whom I learned how to wrench from gave me some advice that I'll pass along:
He said "brakes are much cheaper than clutches to replace, so don't be afraid to use them--and keep your damn foot off the clutch unless you need to shift..."
