Confused?
A couple of weeks ago, the check engine light went on on my 2010. I tried the on-off, etc. trick to read the code, but couldn't make it work. Based on what I read in various threads, I pulled the negative terminal to reset it and promptly filled up the gas tank thinking maybe I had a bad batch. Two tanks later, the light came back on.
On Wednesday night, the engine turned off on the freeway. My initial thought was that I had run out of gas (although I should have had 40 miles left in the tank). I poured a gallon in, but it wouldn't start. I thought "great, I've fried the fuel pump".
I was pressed for time over the next couple of days, so instead of messing with it, I had it towed to the dealer and they looked at it yesterday.
They said they re-programed the Powertrain Control Module (the reason why it wouldn't start), and replaced the evap detector) which was leaking and the cause for the check engine light.
The good news is that it was all covered under warranty. The bad news is that I'm confused. Why would the Jeep shut down at highway speed due to the PCM using a previous program? Was/is this a common problem?

Cross your fingers they actually repaired your problem. "Reprogramming" is often used when they can't actually fix the problem or don't want to. My Jeep had an EGR sensor DTC right before it went out of warranty. They reprogrammed it to turn out the light. A few weeks later it was back. I eventually made the proper repair myself.
I was original not too thrilled with leasing my Jeep. As I hear these stories, I don't feel too bad. I am actually taking this time to think of it as a trial basis. If it works well, I will buy it. Good luck and I hope all is well now!!
