Default Did Something Stupid - Need Help!!!

Okay, I parked my car in the driveway which is on a hill and I left it in 2nd gear and forgot to set the emergency brake when I got out. I went out an hour later to walk the dog and my car was at the bottom of the drive way. No big deal, kind of funny until I started it to pull it back to the top of the driveway. Now the car makes a clicking noise while idling even without giving the engine any gas.

Help??? Ideas??? What did I break???

It sounds like its coming from the engine which is scaring me. I only have 7k miles of it.

Did it roll backwards in 2nd or forwards? The only standard transmission experience I have is with motorcycles and while you cannot let the thing roll by itself since it has only two wheels, when you roll it forward in gear you're essentially "bump starting" the bike which will start turning over the motor. I would assume having it roll backwards in 2nd would be bad, and would put extreme strain on the transmission since it's in a forward moving gear. I cant imagine what it must have looked like if it rolled backwards.

Take it to the dealer and ask "WTF?"

Rolled backwards in second. Right down the driveway.

I would take it to the dealership, it's most likely a transmission problem (I'm not a mechanic) You're still under warrantee, just don't tell them what you did.

Yeah.. I would take that to go get looked at by a professional.. No good can come out of your Jeep rolling down a hill in a forward gear.

They call it a parking brake (not an emergency brake) for a reason.

I have had old timers try and tell me about "it's an emergency brake" and I refer them to the owners manual every time.

If you smoked something on your Jeep, it was because you did something stupid.

Time to pay up.

I'm curious about this one. Trying to imagine what could be damaged by spinning the engine in the opposite direction. Unless the Jeep's engine has some specific stuff.

Since the engine would be spinning backwards the valves would be opening and closing in the wrong timing, ergo instead of compression it would creating vacuum in the chamber, correct? Could this mess something up?

So, the engine would virtually not create resistance to the Jeep's movement compared to if it was trying to move forward in 2nd gear.

How about the transmission? Anything that could be damaged by spinning it backwards?
