Default Diff oil amounts on dana 44

2012 JKU Rubicon

So I changed my diff oil for the first time today (used Mobil synthetic 75w90) and on the wayalife.com write up it says the front diff holds 1.35 quarts and the rear diff holds 2.375.

Jeep was on a flat surface, I let the diff drain till it was all out. Plugged the drain hole back up. And the front only held about 1.1 quarts and started spilling over the fill hole. I let it spill over and plugged it up.

Now for the rear, same thing , not even close to the 2.375 quarts more like 1.5 and was also spilling out of the fill hole. I let it spill over till it stopped and plugged it.

Btw no pieces of metal found in the diffs.

So should I be ok?

I get 2 in the back and 1 in front remember, the Luba goes all the way down the axle. You won't get it all out. Also remember to drive for a while first to heat things up. That helps to get more out.

my 14 rubicon took way less then it says. around 1.75 qts in the rear. I removed the cover when I drained it too as I was replacing covers.

Here are the factory differential capacities for the JK:

FRONT AXLE ± .03 L (
±1 oz.)
186 FBI (Model 30) 1.0 L (1.05 qts)
216 FBI (Model 44) 1.3 L (1.35 qts)

REAR AXLE ± .03 L (
±1 oz.)
198 RBI (Model 35) 1.83 L (1.9 qts)
226 RBI (Model 44) 2.25 L (2.4 qts)

Actual amounts from factory on my vehicle:
Front Dana 44: 44oz (15oz above bottom of fill hole) (1.4 qts)

Rear Dana 44: 72oz (slightly above bottom of fill hole) (2.25 qts)

If your diffs are rotated from the lift, the fill hole may be too low. You need to work out a way to fill the diff to a level a little above the bottom inside of the axle tube.
