2 axle inspect and fluid replace $499

is there ANY way to get around having these bastards inspect the axles and still be able to keep up the warrentee??????
The dealer quote you $499 as they will open up the diff, inspect, put cover back on, refill....total BS....My dealer tried to do the same but for around $300....As long as you change the diff oil and tell the dealership, so they can write it in your file..then you should be fine for warranty purposes....My dealership said that was sufficient.......it was said before, that some people don't change their diff oil for at all....that is just asking for problems.....It is not set in stone that you have to open the diffs for inspection, but it is a good idea every once in a while...I have replaced my oil 3 times in 55000kms.....and the diff opened up once.....

It also depends how hard and often you wheel as well....I believe Wayolife has a good write up on the main page with pics and instructions on how to do it It is super easy....I spent $50 for Royal Purple synthetic Easy to do preventative maintenance

I changed my diff covers and it was easy. The fluid change is easier than an oil change. Do it yourself and enjoy. Look for the write-up in that section. Very nicely detailed.

Did you check Napa? $15 there. Same with Royal Purple.
Dude you got fleeced. You realise it takes 3 bottles total for your diffs right? (on a X) So even at $25 a bottle (which is WAY too expensive) You paid $165 for some kid that makes $8 an hour to take off 4 bolts, stand around for 10 min, replace 2 bolts, fill diffs and replace 2 more bolts, but hey, you got synthetic

All you need to do is show receipts and your dealer cant say a thing about warranty.

maybe I did ( d44 in back and front) but when I was looking before, I couldn't find any cheaper for the 75W140 which I had them put in front and back only the 80W90 was $12-$15 and as much as I enjoy doing my own oil changes me doing a visual inspection would be pointless I don't know what improper wear would look like. Don't have torque wrenches and since I tow 5 days a week an extra $100 is worth them doing it. But I will check out napa's prices in the future thanks

For a novice, it takes less than an hour and a few bucks of gear oil to drain and refill both diffs.. You can do it in your driveway if need be.

The Manual defines the required oil and provides basic instructions. Supplemental guides are on the web, like this one from Mobile: http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...ntial_Oil.aspx

Do you have a limited SLip in the rear? Did they put in the additive? What;s up with that anyway? What kind of additive is needed?

A dealer will add an additive to prevent chatter. You can too. Buy a bottle of the following or its equivalent when you purchase rear end lube: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/ada.aspx

My JK is approaching it's 1 year mark. I will be doing both diffs myself. I will also do the Tcase at the same time.
Since I do wheel my Jeeps, I have always made it a point to change both diffs once a year. Unless I've been through some significant water. Then I check the diff fluid and change as necessary
As for the Tcase, I like to change the fluid in the first year of use. Afterwords, about every 25-30K miles. Which in my case, translates to every other year.

If you are using synthetic gear oil there is no need to add an additive for the limited slip.... read the label on the bottle.

Never ever pay someone to change diff. fluid, it's way to easy to do yourself. Less then 20 minutes for the whole thing. It will take you longer to dispose of the old oil then it will to change it.
