Anyone realize if you fill your jeep with 6 quarts it's above the safe zone on the dipstick. Anyone else have this or just me.

Yeah, mine has been a little above but not critical. I've run about an 8th to 3/16's inch above the full mark with no adverse problems. I don't think it's really that serious to be exactly on the upper mark and no more.

On what motor?

Six quarts added to an empty 3.8 oil pan won't be a problem no matter what the dip stick says.

What I do, though, is add five quarts, start and run the engine for a minute or two while I look for leaks, shut it off, let it sit a few minutes, then bring it up to the full mark. It usually ends up being a little less than 6 quarts total.

I just had my 2012 JKU to the dealer because I had oil on top of my air filter. They blamed it on overfilling. Lesson learned. Read the dipstick. Don't just throw 6 qts in without checking. Dealer charged me $125 to tell me that.

Well the reason I ask is because I'm in the middle of oil consumption test. Before I left the dealer I made note to check the oil level. Well it was a little above the line on the top side of the safe zone. I told them and they said they put in the 6 quarts. Now normally I do my oil change and I put in 5 quarts and change not the full 6 because it's over the top line in the safe zone. I just don't want to go back to the dealer and they say well it's fine ...

Can someone explain to me how over filling will get oil on top of the air filter.

I have 15K on the clock wich equates to 3 oil changes all performed by the dealership I have a K&N oil filter I also have noticed oil blowout in the air filter I just thought it was a normal process.

Six quarts in the 3.8L engine's oil pan isn't going to be overfilled, even if it's a little high on the dip stick.

Truly overfilled would be high enough so the crankshaft/rod caps dip into the oil, throwing too much oil around inside the crank case, and foaming the oil. That can cause more than a few problems.

Oil residue on the engine side of the air filter is probably from oil vapors settling there from the intake after shutdown. Excessive oil vapors in the intake may be from way too much oil in the pan as mentioned, a bad PCV valve, combustion blowing by the rings, etc.
