I recently upgraded to some Nitto Trail Grapplers and it is getting close to tire rotating time.
Do you include your spare in the rotation or just leave it on there?
FYi- i did get all 5 tires... i never really understood the mismatched spare idea.

 

I do. The next set will probably be 37s so a five or six year old never used sun burned 35" tire will be a waste of money if never used.

Exactly. A "brand new" looking, dry rotted tire is of no use to anyone. Always rotate all five.

 

All five here too.

I keep a diagram of the rotation pattern in the glove box so I don't forget which way the tires get moved.

I also write the date and millage on it.

I think the obvious answer is yes! otherwise what's the point in buying 5 tires. I rotate all 5 tires every other oil change, oil is changed every 4k

 

I rotate all 5 of my mud grapplers. I measure all of them when I rotate and the one with the most wear goes to the spare.

Like a previous poster I too printed out the "G" graphic and added a date, mileage and notes columns to the sheet. I leave this with the locking lug nut key.

 

I rotated five the first cycle. Since we all off-road our Jeeps :-), all of us are smart enough to know that you replace tires well before they reach treadware indicators (treadware indicators are for highway use only). I then save best two tires, which by definition have plenty of life for "emergency/spare" usage. After that I buy four new tires, and rotate those four. Easier for me than having to manhandle spare off carrier. Spares are always saved from most recent tires off Jeep, avoiding "dry rot" problem. This works for me because I'm happy with 35" Duratracs.
