Default Does anyone know how much a factory soft top is?

Have a friend who has a factory soft top and he wants to sell it. What's a good price to ask for it? It's for a 4 door. It's new so he says and had never been put on. It's a mopar soft top for a earlier model jk. Will it fit the 2012+?

Even "new" these types of items should/could bring 1/3 to OEM price Unless you/they find the right buyer. I've even heard of cases where the dealer actually purchased the complete soft top back from who they sold it to. "If" they can get 1,000.00 for it they're doing good.. Mind you these tops sell for a few bucks more than I've stated.

Hard to say.. because you didn't clearly identify what year his jeep is.. and yes there can be slight differences. mainly with the door surrounds and some structural issues.

K now we have something to go on.. the 07-08 soft top version is slightly different as indicated by the door surrounds. Thou can get this to work.. you may need the surrounds. Take note of this urls dealing with the doors surrounds.

Bestop Part 55011-01 - Door Surround Kit in Black

Fits 2010 to 2013 JK Wrangler Unlimited and Rubicon Unlimited
Note: there isn't a listing for 09 or lower JKU's.

My advices.. this friend live close enough for you to actually test fit the top first?. You might even ask him to swap door surrounds with you on this, unless the surrounds are included. Is there hardware involved?.. or is this top more of a large bikini?

That I'm not sure, I'll have to go take a look at it. He is only 10 miles or so away

In that case, before you actually try to install it, park side by side and compare your surrounds with his.. this would be the first step.. if you've removed the soft top/hard top from your jeep, make sure the brackets are in place behind the seats. If not.. then you'll need those brackets as well.. Lastly to make this work if you don't have this part.. the rear tail gate channel that holds the window down maybe needed. Just depends on what you have or need and what he is actually offering.
After you've run through the check lsit,, and maybe even had a chance to do a test fit and everything seems snug.. then 500 sounds reasonable assuming it is new or never been out of the box sort of speak. Like I said in my first post.. Most items like this typically go for 1/3 the OEm price or at least this holds true from a pawn shops point of view.

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't buy it. The old tops (09 and earlier) have the tuck-in style up front that is a pain to use. I've had a few and won't own another. The 10+ are better and do require the new surrounds. The 13+ have the option of the premium fabric.

You'll pay top dollar for the premium fabric, tinted.
Less for premium, clear.
Less for standard (10+), tinted.
Less for standard (10+), clear.
Less for 07-09, tinted.
And absolutely bottom dollar for 07-09, clear.

Used will pull from the values. Given what we know (07-09, new in box) if I had to buy it, I would say $400 max.....maybe, maybe stretch $450 if it's got the tinted windows.

Here's my 2cents ... I drive an 09 JKU and if I ever came across someone selling a brand new in box 09 soft top with tinted windows I'd pay $500 on the spot.... But hey we always have to pay more up here in Canada :(
