Default Drivetrain Vibration/shudder

Hey folks I need opinions,

My 'new to me' 2007 2dr, auto JK has a shudder occasionaly at slow speeds. It seems to happen around 30 miles per hour when the transmission wants to shift gears (up or down). It can be eliminated by changing engine rpm, shifting, or locking the torque converter by pressing the button by the shifter. It isn't a terrible vibration but is noticeable to me. It did this with the factory tires and rims and still does it with the 33's and ProComps. It does not always happen, but I notice it once or twice a week.

I know everyone will recommend taking it in, but in my experience these types of troubles are very difficult to simulate for the dealer and have fixed. Hopefully I'm wrong. For know I'm still in denial. It has 11,000 miles on it and was a good used deal, or so it appeared. Maybe this explains whay it was such a good deal and I'm the third owner!

I really like the vehicle and was hoping maybe someone here can offer some advice?

Thanks in advance.

i believe there was a recall on the torque converter. that you would have to check on the project JK site. there is a list of recalls and the torque converter was one of them because it had a shudder,

if i had to bet thats prob what it is. if it were your drive shaft of you threw a weight on the tire or something of that nature it would happen all of the time. i would take it to the dealer and have them check the converter.

hope this helps

Yep there is a TSB on the converters, I think all 07's were affected. Definately take it in, they will be familiar with this one.....

Thanks again for the replies! After more research on here it seems this is a frustrating problem for many JK owners. I want to believe it's fixable, but have some more questions now:

Has anyone with this problem succesfully fixed it?
What transmission do the guys swapping HEMI's into these things use?
Is there a way to do a survey on here to find out how many people have this problem?

Great site, great information, great people....

Thanks

I have had this problem since 2500 miles, which is when the torque converter breaks in. I now have 9500 miles and it is still not fixed.

First they tried multiple software updates which did nothing, then they finally replaced my converter at 9000 miles and it was great for a little while...now 500 miles later it is back. It shudders, locks up at 1500 RPMs and requires me to floor the gas to get it to unlock, at which point it shoots all the way up to 3000 RMPs or higher.

It will also drop RPMs whiles going up hills and feel like the vehicle is losing power.. again I have to floor it to get it to kick out of lock up and it shoots up to 5000 RPMs like a bat out of hell.

I have no idea what to do to fix it at this point, I am going back to the dealer soon to see if I can get the whole transmission replaced. At this point though Im not sure that will fix it either, since the torque converter was already replaced and Im right back to where I've started.

You would have thought that would fix it but it didn't. Also my mileage has dropped from 17.6 to 14.6. I also called Chrysler and they didn't help at all.

Other people on the forum also had their converter replaced and had the problem come back after a few hundred miles, although most of them have gone silent at this point. Im thinking they either lemoned or sold their Jeeps.
