Default Is the engine really this bad?

I know this engine hasn't been received well, but is it really this bad or is there something wrong with mine?

This truck just has NO acceleration what so ever. Just trying to pass slow people on the highway is really hard. I'll floor it doing 60 and the engine just chokes along and struggles just to make it up to 65-70.

I've also noticed recently that shifting into 4th and now 6th will almost always cause the engine to lose power for a couple of seconds after I shift.

This is my first Jeep, although I grew up riding in a CJ-5 and ultimately learned to drive stick in it. I don't remember much about the power of the CJ, that was about 16+ years ago.

I bought the JK knowing that it wasn't a sports car and has the aerodynamics of a brick. With this in mind, I think it runs fairly decent for what it is. I drive much more conservatively in it then I did with my last car, I'll usually drop in the right lane, cruise about 60-65 and let people pass me.

Of course, I prefer cruising the back roads about 45, then trying to pass people that are already running 60-65.

Don't floor it. There's a sweet spot about half to 3/5 of the way down and you'll make it up to 80 like we do

(Assuming you don't have 40's )

4 to 5000 miles kind of wakes this engine up- I'm not the only one to experience this. I just put 2300 miles on mine in 7 days thru the mountains of the northeast, had no problems passing or climbing any grades....

x2 and i'll even go as far as to say that at 10k miles the engine felt even better. That said, i have the manual and on the highway i shift down to 4th and that gets me past people fine.

I got an auto 4dr with 32" tires and 410 gears, when my wife drives it I have to get on her about it being a Jeep and not a race car. Mine picks up and goes better than any truck I've owned and better then the compact cars I've owned, unless of course I redlined them off the line in first that is (abandoned road in the country) I was young once
