Engine surge

08 4dr automatic w/ 3.73. Still stock. Purchased in Oct 07. Every once in a while, when I try to accelerate from a constant speed to a speed of around 20MPH faster, My tranny acts as if it has just shifted to neutral and the RPM's surge. I've seen as high as 5K RPM. This most often happens when doing 35-45 MPH, I decide to pass someone and mash the gas petal, (you have to with this under powered engine!)

I do not blame this on the "drive by wire". Prior to the JK I had a PowerWagon with drive by wire and never experience this issue. Most likely this will result in a reflash of the computer

Obviously, this will result in a trip the the dealership. I posted this to see if anyone else is seeing this behavior. And yes, I did try the search. I also looked through the posted TSB's and found nothing that matched

I have not notice it under the conditions you describe. Mine does it when you have the CC on. running 60 and you need to pass, step on the gas, nothing happens, lift, step on it again, RPM goes up, wait a sec, downshift happens, then you go.

I don't know of anyone with an auto trans that doesn't have this problem.

I eventually just got used to it, and now know where exactly in the pedal movement this will happen and can avoid it.

Try the reflash it might help you out, but I to have noticed similar issues, but only after the tranny drops into overdrive. If this is the case for you, try to use the OD selector and see if kicking it off helps you out. I ALWAYS deselect the OD when merging onto the highway, as it wants to drop into OD at about 1800 rpm just when I need the extra kick to get on the highway.

[EDIT]- WHile my CAI didn't produce a major HP increase or fuel economy improvements, this is one area I do notice a difference, making the engine a bit more reponsive to the go pedal and pulling harder over 2000 rpms.
