ESP disable at the dealership
Once the steering wheel dance is done, it will keep the ESP in this "off" mode until the steering wheel dance is repeated. They will have a permanent ESP Off light on their dash to remind them of this. IOW: You don't have to turn anything off/on every time you start your Jeep.
Most people, if they don't actually have a problem with the ESP/TCS lights, should not use the steering wheel dance. However, some folks don't like the computer controlling these parts of their Jeep at any time. so they turn it off and leave it off.
I'd like to turn off the Stability Control once in a while. Just to get a feel of how the JK reacts without a computer....
Mine is an 09 ... lol... What page is the Steering Wheel dance description on?

Using the 2009 owners manual (not all years have the procedure), which you can download here for free (Ignore that stuff about purchasing an owners manual--it's a poorly designed page. Just select the year and model and press on):

Im sitting in the waiting room at my local dealership today to have a couple things taken care of under warranty. One item I told the guys to check was the ESP/BAS disable. I've tried the steering wheel dance listed in the owners manual again and again, but have never had any success with it. They took the Jeep in to the shop and after about an hour the technician came out to speak with me.
"Sr, your ESP disable is working properly. There is no problem." The man said.
Great! I told him. Can you show me how you did it? "No problem, the procedure is quite simple" he said. He took me to the Jeep and pointed out with confidence in his voice that the ESP button would work to fully dissable ESP if I simply held it for 7 seconds.

"No" I told him, "Im talking about the COMPLETE disable, following the procedure listed in the owners manual." "What procedure?" he said.
Turning to the correct page and showing him the step by step instructions, he shrugged his sholders and said "I didn't know such a thing existed." "How about we order you a new PCM and see if that helps?"
He didn't even try the steps, just offered me a new part. Part of me is glad to get a new PCM, another part of me is scared to give up what I have KNOWING that the new PCM may not fix the problem. I use to be worried about wiring in a disable switch as others on the forum have. If the new PCM dosn't work, I'm going for it. I doubt these guys would even know what the switch was for!!!
What do you think? Will the new PCM help? I have an early model 2008 Rubicon.
