Default ESP Triggered by Sensor Error?

Howdy all,

first post, newbie.

i have a stock 2007 Unlimited X, manual trans, 4.10s, power group. nothing special, nothing after market ( if i can figure this out i am looking to do some modding ).

what happened:

driving down the interstate the vehicle seemed to stall. after freaking out and avoiding being pummeled by tractor trailers i noticed the traction control caution light had come on. once i was at the side of the road it took several restarts to get the traction control to release. it has been taken to a jeep dealer twice with the same report. ( yes, it happened again ) their reply is that they have never encountered this problem and when it happens again call them.

!?

erhmm, my vehicle may arbitrarily and suddenly slow down to a crawl!?

anyone else experience this?

doesn't this seem like it would be a dysfunctional sensor that could be located and replaced?

a bit scared to take my family or friends on ventures in my new jeep wrangler.

anyone?

dave

You have a 07', bring it to the dealer and tell them it has stalled on the highway. There is a TSB out on early to mid 07' for a stalling situation/problem. They will re-flash your ECU with updated software to fix the stall. That will probably fix your problem.

The dealer thinks I am nuts. Trying to get more information before getting over that hurdle again.

They went through a series of computer updates for a couple of different issues ( ABS, ESP and something else ). Would the stalling be related to the traction control?

In all these cases it was similar to driving with the emergency brake on ( the emergency brake was off, I checked multiple times ). The vehicle slowed but the engine never died.

thank you for the info!

My 07 had a similar issue in the winter driving, traced it down to a faulty sensor at one of the rear wheels. Kept telling the computor the vehicle was loosing control..
It was fixed about 2k miles before it was totaled..
