Default Factory Side Steps vs Rubi Rails

I have a Rubi with the stock Rubi rails on it. I've seen a couple pictures of the 4 door side steps on the lower end X and Sahara models and think they would match the lines of my JK better than the Rubi rails. The question is, are these cosmetic/steps only or are they really rated to take a hit?

Cosmetic, they'll take a hit alright...but you'll surely be able to tell afterwards. Rubi's are very stout in comparison.

the steps are NOT made to take hits. the manual even says to take them off before offroading so you dont rip them off

I destroyed both of my steps coming down on rocks. They can't take a hit at all. Keep the rails

Guess I'll be dropping some coin on the Teraflex rails then as I want something with a step on it. It's funny that the manual tells you to take them off.

if you feel like dropping some coin I've been looking at the PowerStep made by Electric Step.

I'm trying to find out if they will tuck behind the rubi rails when in the up position... and of course trying to convince myself that spending $1200 on them is a good idea lol.

I try to avoid moving parts as much as possible. Just one more thing to break. Now if someone wants to make a hybrid between the TF rails and the TNT Custom boat sliders.... then I might drop some coin.

It may also pay to get in touch with a local welder. I have met a dude through my local Jeep club and he is making me some side steps and will use the factory rails. He is using 3/16" steel and they look as solid as anything else I have seen...priced much less than the catalogs...and they look bad ass!
