Default Final Pricing

Ok, I need some help from you all. I ordered my ultimate 2011 Rubicon. All kinds of bells and whistles. Here's the issue. I put $1000 deposit, finally got an estimated delivery date (mid next month) and still have not received a final price. To me, this is starting to smell fishy. Am I getting scammed by a sour dealership or is there any legitimacy to this?
I know I shouldn't have put a deposit down without final pricing, but I know this is the Jeep I want. Kind of a reward for my last three deployments...
Thanks guys!!

As far as I know, pricing on 2011 models and options has not yet been released by Chrysler.

And not only released BY Chrysler, but also TO Chrysler. My dad is the new car manager of a dealership, and he said they don't expect pricing for another week or two (despite being able to order the units). But they expect the first fleet to arrive mid-to-late Sept.

This is typical of (all be it minor) model change years. Since there are several changes not only to options, but interior design, the front bumper, etc... Chrysler will release their final pricing as late as possible, so as not to hinder 2010 sales.

Get a quote from ENCS (military car sales). They've been giving 2011 quotes out for about a month and a half now. A few of the options I didn't understand until the reveling of the 2011 models. It'll give a breakdown of the pricing on all the options. If you can't get one, pm me.

They tried to talk me into that when I bought mine. Was the 1000 dollars refundable? I ended up going to another dealership. The place I went was nonrefundable and I would know the price when they got it. They are out of business now..

I don't want to sound too pessimistic but..... I don't think you have much recourse if the price they offer is what YOU would consider "too much". For future reference, you should ALWAYS get a price quote (in writing) before leaving ANY kind of a deposit with the dealer. For the very reason I listed previously. Maybe this dealership will give you a good price on the vehicle or maybe they will release you from your obligation and refund your deposit. But if they don't, your deposit money is already in their hands and they have special ordered a vehicle (with options you requested) and that's not good news. I hope this story has a happy ending. If not, chalk it up to a "lesson learned" (unfortunately the hard way). Best of luck to you.

I walked away from a special order in '08. We HAD a final price and they tried to add on fees, taxes, etc.. I bailed. Just said No and walked out. I didn't get my deposit back from them right then. They had to have it mailed to me from their bank to prevent fraud, scams, blah blah blah. A week later I did get a check in the mail.

If you do decide to walk your refund may be delayed. And DEFINITELY hang on to the receipt.

Default Thanks guys.

@ Smopho & RockNess: Thanks guys. I feel better about it being legit.

@ ezav8tr: Tried to pull up ENCS. It still doesn't show 2011 Jeeps, but I'm sure they will come up soon. If not, I will pm you.

The deposit isn't refundable because I "customized" it with all the options. The first sales rep I was dealing with left town without contacting me. I had been getting updates weekly from him and then he just bolted. The new sales rep has been working with me pretty well, but we shall see.

Thanks again guys. I really appreciate the help. I will keep you all posted with the ending, hopefully a good one.

Mack

ENCS is only selling 2011's now. Just e-mail a rep with the options you want for a free quote. I've received two 2011 quotes so far. They did put this portion in there though

Model Year 2011 Estimated Uplift $1,213.50
The Estimated Uplift is ENCS' estimate of the new Model Year Factory
price increase excluding price increases resulting from changes in
equipment content.
The Total Price of this vehicle is the maximum you will pay even if
the Factory raises prices more than the ENCS Uplift. However, should
the Factory release initial Firm pricing for this vehicle which is
less than your Total Price, you will receive a refund for the
difference.

Good luck.
