Default Freedom top question. Drilling holes!

Has anyone drilled into the interior thick portions of the freedom tops? I would like to mount a shelf overhead just in front of the visor. I am hoping the material will support screws. Thanks for your help.

I would recommend using fasteners called "riv-nuts" These are threaded inserts that install into the fiberglass with a rivet gun or expansion tool; then the fastener that holds the shelf screws into the insert. Otherwise, the fastener( screw) could loosen from vibration with predictable results. You can get the correct fasteners at Marine stores, auto body supply , and hardware stores. Show pix of your mod? Thanks

A big thanks. I have those at my disposal. I was worried about cracking around the holes or there not being a void above the thicker portions. I will post my results when complete.

Default Cut to suit, beat to fit, and paint to match.

Well here is my mod. You can never have enough storage space in a Jeep. It comes out with the freedom panel, no need to remove first.

Very Nice! I take it that you custom-formed the tin for the shelf, Jeep engineers, take notes...

Thanks. It was an old grey shelf from a steel work bench. I used a jigsaw, drill and, a brake. The nutserts worked great. The paint is krilon appliance epoxy coat. The stuff is awesome.
