Dealer should fix for $0, but not free. You will likely have to spend the better part of a day driving to the dealer, waiting at the dealer to get it in for a look, decide what to do, argue with them while they try to get you to pay for it, wait some more while they fix it, deny a bunch of useless, overpriced service that you dont need and then driving home only to find out that their RTV gasket is leaking...again.

Or you could spend $50, grab a 6 pack, throw on some music and get dirty under your Jeep for 30 min while you remove the cover, scrape the gasket, clean the gears with brake cleaner (which the dealer prob would not have done), apply an RTV gasket (that wont leak like the dealers) and refill with synthetic mobile 1. Do it yourself...its a Jeep

Routine mantenance or not, if it is leaking because the gasket is cracked or worn out, they should replace the gasket and have it refilled under warranty. If a Mopar part failed causing a leak, it should be replaced. Isn't that how it's supposed to work?

Default diff leak

I had my 07 Rubicon to a dealer for different work but I asked him to check the rear diff because there was a small leak. He called and told me it was leaking out the axel tubes and the would need to change the azel housing. Of course I told him to go ahead. BTW that dealer is now out of business unfortunately. That is what happens to the good ones.

Guys, I just noticed that the rear differential has a leak too. Not as bad as front but definitely a slow leak. It was too dark to take a picture of it for you. What the heck? As I said I do not abuse my Jeep. Yes, I do occasional serious off-road when my Jeep takes me to a good fishing spot, but I am very easy on the Jeep. I rarely have to use 4L and even if I do so what?

Thank you again for all your informative replies. I am going to inspect everything (transfercase, tranny, bushings, brakes, etc.) tomorrow and based on the condition, I most likely take it to the dealer. My dealer (not mentioning the name) so far refused to fix my brake recall number K14. First they said they inspected and there is no brake leak, then they refuse to give me a loaner for recall fix, and third they never called me when my parts came in. So I might try another dealer.
I started a series of mods yesterday and that is how I noticed the differential leak. So far I took front air-dam out, cut the bumper sides, and installed VDP bumper caps. The plan for this weekend was to install my Teraflex Leveling Kit, 1.5" wheel spacers, light bar and driving lights, and speakers. Next week tires arrive and I would be done for a while. Now with these leaks I have to postpone all mods. I am afraid dealer void my warranty.
I had planned to install Teraflex (or ARB) diff covers on the next wave of the mods, but I guess these leaks will change priorities...

How can they refuse to fix a recall? That's retarded! I would file a complaint.

Maybe. But if Chrysler issues a unique ID number for each recall, there is no K14 recall for the Jeep JKs--unless they've somehow slipped a power sliding door into the options list and we hadn't noticed!!

Well there you go.

If you were planning to install covers, your "change of priorities" should be to do the covers now and leave the dealer out of the picture.

The dealer is just going to be more hassle than it's worth.

Just for context, that seal that's leaking will need to be broken when you install your covers. And the "fix" the dealer going to do is simply a new seal, something you'd have to re do anyway after you install you covers.

For some, they use lubelocker seals, for me, I just use red, high temp, RTV gasket maker. A tube of this stuff is $6 and is more than enough for the front and rear of your Jeep.

Sorry sir, I meant K15 not K14. The brake master cylinder tubes.

Back to original subject if the leak is from the seals, I will do it myself, while upgrading the diff covers. No problem. However, I WILL take the car to the dealer to make sure it is just the seals leaking and nothing else. They have to fix the brake tubes anyway. This will be before I start my mods.

On a side note, this forum is great. Thank you for all help.

I agree that with a 2010 and 10K on it the gasket has to be under warranty. As to whether they will put new lube in the diff is anyones call. I would still make them stand the cost of the leak.
