Default Front end clank?? Help!!

Hey guys I'm having a hard time pin point the cause of a suspension related front end clunk in my 2007 sahara unlimited. If some one could please help or put me in some kind of good direction as I've changed a couple thugs already and the clank still persists.

The symptom is suspension related, when I hit a bump in the road or a dip in the form of a speed bump or a bridge joining bracket a clanking noise occurs. It doesn't happen at lower speeds, it also only happens when hitting the obstacle with both wheels at the same time.

I've tried shaking the truck violently in order to try to reproduce it but it doesn't seem to work, it seems to require a quick and violent motion, much like hitting a small speedbump at a decent speed.

Went under the truck nothign looks loose or busted...

So far I replaced swaybar links and the upper sway bar bushings..... Still makes the damn clank.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Are they after market sway bar links? The pin comes loose on my JKS links evert so often and it causes my front end to clank as well...

No all parts are dealership parts... And also dealership installed. So while the truck is getting noisier, my wallet is getting thinner :(

I'd bet money that you are experiencing:

Mine does the same thing, and I can reach under my JK and rotate the tie rod and drag link, and recreate the 'clank' by doing that. I'm replacing the tie rod with a Rock Krawler, and I got a new Moog tie rod end for the drag link at the pitman arm. Clank is gone from the drag link, next up, the tie rod.

Try rotating your drag link and tie rod and see if that doesn't produce the clank in question. It did for me.

I'll ask the stealership to check the tie rods and the shock mounts. Thanks for the heads up! I appreciate it!

Default My JK has this clank

My 07 Sahara Unlimited 4DR has this very distinct clank also on what I would call drop bumps. The city roads are good for this where the bump pushes the suspension up and then drops it quickly or a hollow which also causes a quick suspension drop. The clank is consistant in sound and is timed with suspension movement and does not happen at slow speeds. Two dealers have "found nothing".

The mystery continues.

Can you rotate your drag link and tie rod with your hand? Grab it and twist it back and forth. See if that produces your clank.

Mine did the same I duplicated it on the draglink. Both of my rods rotate easily but the drag ling rotated a lot easier. I used a needle attachment and pumped grease in the ends. It stiffened it up and I have not had the issue for a thousand miles so far. I'm thinking the factory didn't put enough grease in the maintenance free tierod ends.
