Default Front Plastic Skid

Question: Is it safe to remove this big hunk of plastic? I haven't gave my JK a lift although I will be getting a Leveling Lift Kit soon. Would it make a difference? While I was washing my JK i was looking at it. Woah is it ugly piece of plastic! Heres a picture to show what I'm talking about.

I took mine off the first month I had it, but I lifted at the same time also. I think its just their for aerodynamics (i.e. gas mileage.)

I took mine off when I replaced my front bumper.

Then I found out it was for aerodynamics, specifically mpg and to reduce hood flutter when driving down the highway. Someone mentioned assisting with cooling as well by generating negative pressure behind radiator.

so I put it back on almost immediately, I want as good of mpg as I can get, and I don't want my hood flying open when I drive down the highway.

there are plenty of people on here both with and without the air dam on their jks, so you can do whatever you like and you'll be fine.

Hello Members:

I took mine of as well, when I installed the rugged ridge front bumper. No hood flutter / and no difference in MPG.

I took mine off last weekend while under there *trying* to address deathwobble by retorqing my trackbar. It was in my way.

Anyway, now that its off, I don't think its going back on. The Jeep looks plenty good without it and I seriously doubt my mpg has dropped: I reset the computer when I did it and it reads the same 19mpg (aka 17 in real life).

Yes, take the thing off if you want to!

i removed mine about a month ago when i had to remove my bumper to push out the dents when some a$$-holio backed into my jeep and took off before i could see them....still bitter....anyway without the plastic airdam there is no difference in gas mileage but on the highway there is noticebly more hood flutter...just my findings on my jeep take it as you will.

Could removing this be a bit beneficial to let more air flow over the trans and other hot parts under the Jeep?

I could be just thinking too much into it but who knows...
