front skid durability

i dont know how it happened, but the front skid plate is all uneven..the passenger side is drastically higher than the drivers side..there is no rash or marks to speak of, and last night i did hit a dip in a parking lot over a sewer cover that i didnt see going like 20 miles per hour..not a pothole, just a little area that was sunk..i dont think that was the cause, but im not sure if i could've sunk that low. also i was thinking it could be because of temperature changes (live in maine, 50 one day, 20 the next) or it could be because of ice/snow build up underneath from driving through deep snow and having all of that weight sitting there until it melts and drips out..has anyone else had these bend while not offroading?

What skid are you talking about? The big chunk of plastic under your bumper? That isnt a skid, it is a air dam. And they trash easily.

yeah thats what i was talkin about..if it hit that in a mall parking lot thats pretty bad..i drove by it and it wasnt even that big..ive hit way bigger dips and potholes going faster than 20 and not felt the bounce i did there..

your not talking about the front plastic air dam directly behind the front bumper are you? because if so that's not a skid....

if you are talking about the steel skid plates over the diff or auto tranny then that's another thing altogether and no the only thing bending those is beating the hell out of them on rocks....perhaps a pic or two would help...

edit: someone responded b4 me...you can fix that easily enough or just remove it altogether...it does help a little with gas mileage and that's about all and perhaps helps with the hood lift problem some are having by directing the air under the vehicle better...

Just driving through snow will trash the plastic air dam.

The factory front skid is just a plastic air dam. I tore mine off the fist time I went wheeling. Take it off its totally useless.

yeah its the air dam i was talking about..and yeah ive driven through a lot of snow up here..sometimes a foot just on the roads not even in the driveway...sorry i didnt know about that being an air dam im still a youngin' and still learning about sh*t. i didnt think id hit it off of anything, but man, driving through snow can do that? what a piece of trash lol

OEM front skid is 3/16" thick and attached with 4 bolts. When the weather warms up, I plan to add a few bolts.

haha see i wish i had something like that..i have the plastic air dam i dont know why i thought it was a "skid" lol....roooookkkkieeeee. i read above it might help with gas mileage and hood lift but i do all city driving for the most part..i never go on the highway so i dont really worry about that..i may take it off..just looked at my profile picture on my computer? and the passenger side is higher..so this happened most likely in a huge blizzard we had..that picture was taken the day after i drove through 1 1/2 feet of snow to get home. thats probably it.
