FYI....2011-2012 JK TSB.......Leaking

Hey all, I did a lot of research on this subject.....I had my '12 JK in for the infamous leak issue. There is a TSB on this problem.....it is not a recall as of yet, per the dealership. Mine was leaking from both right and left front sides.

They showed me what it consists of. It is a little kit that comes w/ new BIGGER seals for the top frame, and smaller insert seals that go under the existing door weatherstrip in 3 places.......all of this comes in 1 packet per side.

When I picked it up I inspected with a fine tooth comb.....as it only has 2400 miles on it. The job was done very cleanly. It is supposed to rain tonight......so that will be the determining factor.....although when I picked it up from the dealer the outside was wet and the inside was dry....so we are a step in the right direction!!

I know that this thread is sort of useless without pics.....and I am sorry for that...I will take some pics tomorrow when it is light out. Hopefully any of you out there that have this problem can get it taken care of like I did! HOPEFULLY being the key word!! Jeep on!!!!!:)

interesting. must be the latest fix? i had my 12 2/door/hardtop in twice for the passenger side leak. my floorboard was never flooded. but this was from on top of the door frame. only in a extended long period of rain. first time they adjusted the door. worse. second time, some type of door seal mod and sealer added where it was skipped from the factory. they had it a day and a half. ran 3 hours of water over it. called it good. as luck would have it, a few days later we had a long, heavy downpour worth hours of rain. i noticed no more leaking. it will be interersting to see your pics or the print out of the new TSB. un nerving. too many fixes for these damn leaks!

side note: when it went in the second time, i guess chrysler contacted the dealer on how to do the fix.

MYJKJEEP--where and how bad was your leak(s)? hard or soft top?

MYJKJEEP Jan 20, 2012 07:40 PM

pa rubicon-- I have a soft top...I had standing water on the passanger side, and the driver side was soaked thru the floormat and the carpet....I have the Quadratec liners but it leaked right past it on the side of the sill plate....Ill get pics of the repairs in the morning

Had anyone experienced a leak like this? Twice I've come out when my JKU was parked in my driveway and the backseat and floor were wet. My driveway is pretty step and it seems to be coming from were the freedom panels meet the back piece. I've checked and its seems tight, even the screws, I think that's where its coming from. Only happens when it sits at that angle in a pretty good rain. Have had it through plenty of carwashes and not one drip.

My 2011 didn't leak but I had it in for a LOF and they did the TSB for the possible leak. It leaked right after that. Had to take it back in. They cut the rubber seal around the door too short leaving a perfect opening for water. No problems since they re did it the 2nd time.

Mine leaks were the freedom panels meet at the front piece. Same as you, I have rechecked everything. Only happens in really heavy rains.

Now you guys have got me a little nervous. Our '10 JKU hardtop never leaked a drop anywhere. I wonder what changes they made in '11 to cause this all of a sudden.
There shouldn't be a "patchwork" of fixes for issues like this. The original parts should work.

I don't like wet floor carpet and mats!
