Default Gas mileage

Just got back from a trip to phoenix and cannot believe the fuel economy, or better said, lack of. I realize i only had 3500 miles on my 2011 but i watched the gas needle move it seemed. Got 13.4 on the trip down, and it seemed to run much better on the trip back, and i got 16.7. Still, not what i call a great crusing vechicle in any way. My 09 was not an unlimited, but it got a heck of a lot better mileage than this 2011. Auto, 33's, and stock 4:10's.

I saw a post on this forum somewhere about gas mileage, oil type/weight, fuel type/octane, etc. It all boils down to one of the replies.

The best thing you can do to get better gas mileage is control that thing on the end of your right leg.

I drive my 2011 Uni Sport ( Auto, 3.73's, stock tires) on 300 mile round trips about 2 or 3 times a month. It has 4k miles on it already and gets 20mpg avg during those trips. This includes some in town driving, mostly highway/turnpike at 70-75. I'll admit that's not the 38 mpg I got with my 2011 Malibu on the same trip but it's a Jeep!!

I expect that's part of your fuel economy equation. That and your right foot.

My '11 Unlimited Sport (6-speed, 17x32s, 3.73) only has 1900 miles logged, but I'm averaging 20-20.5 around town in Colorado Springs and 24-26 on the few local trips I've taken. And that's at altitude, anywhere from 6000 to 12,000 feet on E10 gas.

The milage will get better as soon as the engine is broken in. It happened for me.

Sounds like your mileage is similar to mine. When you got 13.4 was there any wind by chance? Any head wind at all kills the jeep, also I have found my best mileage is around 65. That might not be true because I haven't driven extended times under 65. Even bumping up to 70 cuts the mpg.

The unlimited gets significantly worse mileage than the 2door.
