Default regearing cost? Ball joints?

Hi all, what's a reasonable cost for a local shop to charge to regear my front D30 from 3.21's to 3.73's. I have already dissembled the axle. I just need the front done as i'm swapping it in to replace a broken one. I have the gear's i just need a labor amount. Also thinking about getting the ball joints replaced will she's down and from reading this forum that sounds like a weak spot too. With 38k miles does that sound like a good idea, or should i just run her until they get quite worn? What should that cost? thanks and love this forum.

Ball joints are pretty easy, rent the press and it doesn't take long. Can't imagine paying for that.

If anything, press the old ones out, have someone do the gears. Bring it home, press in new joints. Jmo

I paid 300 per axle in michigan for gears. Balljoints, i would just wait till they wear out. Watch some youtube vids about replacing balljoints, super easy if your not afraid to wrench.

Edit: autozone rents the press for free

Thanks guys, my shop is at 450 for the one axle, seems a little high. Anyone else know what this should cost to regear?

I paid $250 an axle for a regear and supplied my own parts. $1000-$1250 total cost is about normal

Dropping mine off this weekend to have front & rear gears done, new ball joints, magnum sleeves welded in, c-gussets welded on, a backbone brace/truss welded on, RCV shafts installed, all 4 lower control arm skids welded on, and driveshafts replaced...paying $1500 in labor total, which while not cheap, i'm not TOO upset about.

I just replaced my balljoints on my own. Never done it before. If you have everything apart, I would probably upgrade. While you have your gears out, make sure you, or someone else replaces the inner axle seals. prone to leaking once the shafts are out.

I rented a press from local auto parts and did the ball joints. not too hard, just took time..

Let me know what you find out on the gears.
