Default Gascap Warning Light

Hi All,

I have an '08 JK.
I got the code for an evap leak, but the mechanic thought it was just that I needed a new gascap.
So I went to a Jeep dealer and replaced the gascap, but alas, no luck.

I've had the issue where fuel is burped up, and I think this might be related.
Also, lately I've been getting terrible fuel economy. I do have mods that reduce the mileage, but 10mpgs is not good.

Just today, the check engine light went on too.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

How many miles on your JK? The fuel burping issue on your '08 is covered under warranty up to 7 years/70,000 miles.

Post all the codes you have. Use a reader, as the self-reader doesn't show all the codes.

A source of vacuum leak some people have had is a melted tube that goes from the intake manifold to the Evap control between the battery and the TIPM. Check that out.

Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look.
46k miles on the jeep.

I don't have a code reader, but when I take it back to the shop, I'll definitely note all the codes

Evap leak. Im having this issue as well. It only takes a pinhole to set a code. These evap's are very sensitive to vacuum

I had this happen one weekend on my 2012 JKU. Played with the gas cap and that did not help. What fixed it was just grabbing and tweaking the hose under the hood that goes to the evap canaster.

Had a smoke test done on mine and it was a leak in the fuel system between the tail light and gas tank filler neck. It has a breather canister about $40 I replaced that fixed the problem.

Hmm...I might have to try the same thing.
