Default Got a bizarre one folks!

It appears that both of the stock front bumper fog lamp bulbs on my 2008 unlimited have blown out simultaneously. Not only that, but the glass blew with such force that the driver side lens was cracked. There is a pile of the bulb glass fragments inside each lamp housing. Any ideas? Any advice on how to pull the housing out to clean the glass out and replace the bulb?
Thanks,
Mark in Ohio

I believe I would be taking that to my dealer as is so he could see it. Sounds like an electrical problem that could result in a fire if not resolved. I would not just replace the bulbs and go on.

I second that idea, take it back to the dealer and get it checked out.

or you took an impact to the front bumper...via parking lot. i find it highly unlikely that a bulb would blow out and break/crack the housing.

Housing just twists and pulls out.

I called the dealer and the service manager said he's seen this only once before. I will take it in for service. Regarding the light lens housing, are you saying once the lamp socket is removed the entire housing just twists out?

There is no indication of impact. It all appears to be internal. There is even flash residue on the inside of the lens.

The light housing is held on by four screws. The bulb socket will twist out, not the housing. There is no way that the bulb blowing would crack the housing. I broke ice with my front bumper in a pond crossing resulting in the plastic part of the bumper pushing in where ever there was an air gap between the plastic and the frame of the bumper, broke both signal lights, ripped off a fender flare and cracked my grille in two places. Both fog light's were fine. They are pretty tough.

Well that's good to know, I was hoping there was some other cause of the crack, maybe normal wear and tear and I just noticed it now as a result of close inspection. It would be a bit frightening if a power surge from a 12 volt battery could be of such intensity as to propel shards of glass with such force. I made an appointment with my Jeep dealer to examine the electrical system and replace the light assemblies. Gawd, between the hood shake, door and dash rattles and clunks, what next!
