Grinding Noise in 4wd??
I have a very distinct grinding noise every time I put my jeep into 4 wheel drive. I took it to the dealership and it was there for 4 weeks. They went through the t-case, tranny, rear axle and told me it was fixed. As soon as I pulled out I put into 4wd and same noise. I just swapped in the rubi 44 so I know thats not the problem. Any suggestions??

The transfer case is not syncronised. When putting it in 4WD Lo and you have it at a slight roll try shifting much faster into LO range. If you shift it slowly it will grind and this is entirely NORMAL. With practice and patience you will find that vehicle roll speed and arm shifting speed will meet in a "sweet spot" where you will have virtually no grind or snick....

If it were mine, I would do what ever it took to see if the lever on the console is moving the lever on the t-case correctly. It could be the t-case is not being fully engaged.

Did you do a spline count when installing the axle? Just a thought...Did you check the spider gears when you had the cover off? Thought #2, I need a break...
