half doors leaking- warranty?

First off I have a 2012 JK. I straight traded my full doors for half doors with a 2010. I got them painted and put them on and in Mobile, AL it rains about every 10 minutes. I started noticing my passenger side door was leaking enough to fill 1-2 water bottles a day. I am noticing that water seems to be running down the seal and then once at the bottom of the door dropping off into the tub. The seals are starting to look really worn(seems to have worn fast for a 2012). I took it to the Jeep dealer and they said Yeah needs a seal kit put on the doors, will be covered under warranty. That was saturday and they didn't have a "leak specialist" so i brought it back monday but the leak specialist was sick again so i left it and today at 430 they call and say no work was done I'll need to buy new uppers and lower door seals for both sides before they'll fix the issue under a "parts warranty". I was under the impression that as long as it was OEM jeep they would warranty it. They said my door alignment was almost spot on and was not the cause. Is this a way for them to get me to buy new uppers and lower seals from them(look at 450$) or do I need to call Chrysler and find a new dealer.

It looks like underneath my soft top where water usually waterfalls there is not enough sealant stuff and the issue would be resolved by adding more of their sealant stuff. I tried to do the door stuff from walmart but it looked retarded but i might have to go buy more. I don't have a heatgun only my girlfriend's pink hair dryer so I can't try to bend the doors. Might give it a try anyway. Any help would be awesome....I don't really have the money for uppers right now as I just started this ridiculous financial peace and whoever wrote this plan obviously doesn't own a jeep or they would understand you can't budget for a jeep:cool:

I'd say since you traded for half doors off a 2010, then they kinda have a valid point. That's like me trading my hardtop for an older soft top, and taking it in for a leak expecting it to be covered

the dealer at first thought I was trying to get them to replace the weather stripping on the doors, which if they said just replace the weatherstripping then I would have given them the okay to buy all new weather seals. He said that just replacing the upper seal won't do he wants the whole upper replaced which seems a little redundant. I don't understand why he wouldn't add some of the seal kit he talked about to the door to at least help. I have brought the jeep in for leaking before the half doors. they said they couldn't replicate the water.

Why would you trade half doors for full doors when you say it rains every ten mins? Sounds like you traded something good, for bad. Just put full back on and I bet that will fix the leak.

I'm the first to say that most dealers are slimeballs, but I would not expect them to provide a warranty on used parts that you installed after purchase. You bought used parts, and because they aren't performing as if they were new, you want someone else to foot the bill for repair? I'd say the repairs are on you, not the dealer/Jeep.

As for the uppers, I couldn't say as I've never had half doors, but when I did have a soft-top, my expectations were not for a 100% leak free experience.

realized that my jeep only leaks on that side when my jeep is parked. I was driving and it started pouring and when i parked really quick i looked at the floor and it was dry....15-20 seconds later the water started dripping. I opened the door and the top of the soft top is dripping down in the gap between the soft top header and the frame and running down the side and exiting in the cab.

as for the dealership doing a warranty for the jeep leaking I'm not asking for them to buy me parts. I have had my jeep in there already for it leaking(same spots) and they couldn't replicate the issue and i finally said it's a jeep whatever. It's not just a drop or two but I can fill up 2 water bottles full of water every day. I understand jeeps leak but if someone dropped a bucket of water in your jeep each day you'd probably get upset. I asked about an option to pay them to install the foam kit they talk about. They wouldn't and said I need to buy new uppers from them and then they will.

As far as buying half doors in Mobile, AL where it rains I am only stationed here for 2 more years. I hope to never be stationed anywhere near here for the rest of my career.

I am going to give Jeep a call and see whats up.

I have 2 jeeps. Mine both invariably leak it seems. I hacked me off years ago. Now I expect it. It sucks..but it is definitely part of the experience. I've got friends that are screaming about there new jeeps. I just laugh. Hang in there...it's amazing what you can get used to.

yeah i've gotten used to it but my last jeep was a 2010 and the floorboard rusted on the passenger front and rear side so it's something that just freaks me out but I know with anything removable that it won't ever be 100% watertight. Some people get so bugged about the waterfall of water when i open the door but I forget that it happens. I took it to another dealership and explained everything and they saw where it was leaking on the soft top and installed the seal kit. They told me it took them about 25 seconds to see where the water was leaking from and the other dealership probably didn't even investigate besides seeing warn half doors and saw the chance to make profit. They took off some of the old seal stuff and then put a new one on and it looks a lot more thick than the last one. They were closing soon and said that if I drop it off Saturday they can give it some real attention but that will help me make it through the week.

Just waiting for the rain to lighten up so I can monstaliner it. I would do it in the garage but my upstairs neighbor's master bedroom is above it and i don't think they'd appreciate the smell if it can make it up there(already on thin ice with working on the jeep in my garage).
