Default Hard Top Material

I want to get a Thule Rack System that uses tracks instead of the type that gets attached to the gutters. It requires drilling the top and the attachment varies depending on whether it is fiberglass or metal.

What is the JKU hard top made of?

Has anyone here ever used this type rack system? Thoughts?

I like it for it's clean look when the rails are removed. I'll be using it primarily for my kayak.

My initial thinking was this is not a good idea, to be mounting stuff on this some what thin plastic surface, but a google search reveals folks are certainly doing it. Thought this site had the best examples:

Good luck. Post some pics when you get it done.

It's fiberglass.

Yep! That's what I want to do. There are a few other manufacturers doing this, but I like the way Thule does things. Funny you should have chosen that particular store as there is one of them near me and that's where I plan on going on Monday.

I'm thinking that if some type of metal plate is used on the underside (inside) of the roof, it should distribute the stress better.
