HELP , No start , stranded

well i've read all the threads and nothing is working for me , just looking to some insite to avoid the dealer if possible (out of warrante).

Was running fine, went to the store. Got in it to leave and nothing. It clicked but no start. I worked the key a few more times and it started , ran for about 3 seconds , then died. Did that 3 times and now not even that. I replaced the battery with a brand new one just now and still nothing. Wont start in neutral or after moving the shifter (auto) . No codes, beat the starter with a hammer, nothing, just clicks. Tried to run a temp ground wire from neg terminal to engine block and to frame, nothing. Pulled all the started/ign fuses and nothing.

WTF! And on top of all that I missed the first half of the JETS game!

Help me! puleeezzzzeee

Undo the positive and neg cables, touch the ends together. Then hook it back up,see what it does.Thats about all I got since you already did the other stuff.

nope, nothing there either. I'm thinking possible starter... ? But why would it have run and die like that?

mkjeep Sep 11, 2011 06:41 PM

Maybe if the starter doesn't disengage or theres a malfunction, it kills the rest.:dontknow2:Maybe tap on the starter some more , are the cables corroded, gunked up? Maybe wiggle em clean them and check for a bad connection.

I'll pull it off tomorrow and check the cables. How do I know if its bad? Do i have to just replace it and hope for the best?

Bring it into an auto parts store, they should be able to put power to it and tell.

the starter is clicking or no? Id start at the battery, as you have, and work out from there. Im thinking check the fuel pump, relay and fuel filter. Hopefully its not a bad ECU. :hmm:

Have you tried rocking the jeep abit forward and back abit and try to start? Throwin everything i can think of right now.

Sounds like a combo of things. Battery sounds good as its newer. Loose or bad connections, starter and maybe alternator... damn.

I thought the fuel pump as well since it ran and died ... but then it wouldn't even turn over, just click, so I doubt its a fueling issue, I could be wrong. Yea the battery is about 2 hours old so I know thats not it. I'm wondering about the ground cables but I don't know what to look for or how to bypass, I tried the jumper cable trick and nothing.

I did push it forward into the parking spot . I guess I'll be pulling the starter in the morining and have it checked out. The cables look ok but its worth a shot.
